Youth loses ₹6 lakh in name of crypto cash

Kanpur: Cyber crooks duped a youth of Rs 6.22 lakh promising him manifold profits through investment in crypto currency. Cyber Crime branch of Commissionerate police registered a case on June 4 and initiated investigations to nail the cyber thugs.
Saurabh Pandey, resident of Kalyanpur’s Awas Vikas, is employed in a private company.
A few days ago, he received a message on WhatsApp with a foreign number, wherein, he was told about earning for ‘liking’ an Instagram page.
Meanwhile, through a message on the Telegram app, he was lured into making manifold profits by investing in crypto currency. Considering it a good offer, he deposited Rs 6.22 lakh in several installments. Later, when asked about his profit, the crooks stopped taking his calls and responding to his messages.
Thereafter, he approached the cyber crime police, who registered a case and launched an investigation, besides freezing the transaction. “We did this so that crooks could not make any further transaction. Meanwhile, sleuths of Cyber Crime are zeroing in on the offenders and will soon be in police net,” said a senior police official of Cyber Crime unit.
