KANPUR: A 24-year-old banking exam aspirant allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his rented accommodation in R S Puram near Neercheer Crossing, Kakadeo, on late Friday night.
Amit Gupta, who hailed from Tulsi Nagar, Orai, had joined a private coaching institute in Kakadeo. The student had come to the city only a month ago. His friends said Amit had been feeling depressed for some time, police said.
No suicide note was found. Police have informed his family and sent the body for autopsy.
Meanwhile, the death toll in Friday's road mishap reported from Nanamau-Billhaur, in which seven persons were killed following a collision between a pick-up van and a truck, rose to eight on Saturday when another seriously injured man, Jagdish, died during treatment at LLR Hospital. District Magistrate M P Agrawal announced Rs 2 lakh as ex-gratia to the kin of the deceased.

Gaurav Pandey and his two aides near Bhairav Ghat on Saturday. He was rushed to hospital in a critical state. Police are investigating the matter.
