Woman’s body found hanging, husband taken into custody

Kanpur: In an incident reported from Bithoor, Preeti Verma, wife of Rishi Verma, section officer in forest department was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday.
Verma said his wife committed suicide after a domestic dispute, while her family members accused Rishi of killing her and hanging the body to make it look like suicide. Police sent the body for postmortem and took Verma into custody.
According to the report, Roop Singh, resident of Kalyanpur Beri, married his daughter Preeti to Rishi Verma, resident of Lucknow, in 2014.Verma is posted in Unnao. Preeti’s maternal aunt Deepti Singh said that late Monday night, Rishi called his mother-in-law and told her that Preeti had a fight with him and asked his in-laws to come over to his place immediately.
When Preeti’s aunt Deepti reached Gulmohar Apartment in Bithoor, she found the door locked.
“On being contacted, Rishi Verma arrived and opened the main door,” she said, adding, “The door of Preeti’s room was bolted from inside and when it was broken, we found her body hanging from the ceiling fan.”
Police took the dead body into custody and sent it for postmortem. Preeti’s family alleged Verma was in a relationship with a girl from Barra and that he had even married her on the sly.
“Preeti used to fight with him over this, so, on Monday night, he killed her and hanged her body,” they alleged.
ACP Kalyanpur Vikas Pandey said, “Action will be based on evidence, autopsy report and other findings.”
