Woman hangs self, parents allege foul play by in-laws

KANPUR: Two women committed suicide in separate incidents reported from different areas of the industrial city since Monday night.
In the first case, 38-year-old Aparna, wife of Ajay Agnihotri, a resident of Gayatripuram in Kalyanpur, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in the bedroom of her house. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.Aparna reportedly had a spat with her husband on Monday night after which she confined herself to her room. Initially, the husband thought she was angry and should therefore not be disturbed. However, when she did not open the room after a couple of hours, her husband and other house inmates broke open the door and were stunned to see her hanging from the ceiling, police said.
"They then informed us and we brought the body down and sent it to mortuary for post mortem. The body was later handed over to the husband after the post mortem examination was over," a police official said.
The girl's parents however alleged that she was killed by her in-laws. "We are trying to ascertain the allegations levelled by her parents. Further investigations are underway in this regard," informed a police official.
In another case, a 40-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide under the limits of Kidwainagar police station. She has been identified as PV Prasad, wife of Shiv Prasad of Barra-8, Kidwainagar and had been working at a private nursing home in the area.
According to police, the incident happened on Tuesday afternoon. When all the other members of the family were busy with routine work, the woman went inside her room and reportedly killed herself. Her husband and other family members came to know about the incident when they later saw her lying in an unconscious state. They rushed her to the nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. "A suicide note was recovered from the spot, in which she had stated that she was ending her life owing to her prolonged illness," informed a police official.
