Kanpur: The wife of a railway signal testing in-charge was found hanging in her room in Hanumant Vihar police station jurisdiction under suspicious circumstances on Friday.
The family took her to Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The woman's father and siblings alleged that her in-laws informed them about the incident and left abandoning the bod0y. The woman's younger brother Ashish alleged that her in-laws used to harass her for dowry.
Priyanka Yadav, 29, daughter of Satyanarayan Singh from Banpurwa in Gujaini, was married to Rahul Yadav on July 9, 2024. Rahul, a B Tech graduate and son of retired inspector Shyam Babu Yadav from Yogendra Vihar, Khadepur, works as a railway signal testing in-charge. Ashish said that Priyanka's body was discovered hanging in the same room where her husband Rahul Yadav was sleeping. Priyanka's father Satyanarayan and Ashish have also accussed Priyanka's in-laws of demanding a plot and car as dowry within six months of marriage. Her in-laws had even threatened to kill Priyanka and fix Rahul's second marriage if their demands weren't met, said Ashish.
The complainants stated that at 4:30am on Friday, Shyambabu informed them about Priyanka's suicide and asked them to reach LLR hospital.
They rushed to the location, only to find Priyanka's in-laws missing. Hanumant Vihar police station in-charge Uday Pratap Singh confirmed registration of FIR on the family's complaint. An investigation has been launched he said, adding that the post-mortem report has confirmed death by hanging.
