The police said that the incident was reported from Phaphund kotwali police station area, wherein a 27-year-old woman, Priyanka, widow of Avneesh Kumar, took her four children to the Keshampur ghat of Sengur river after a fight with her brother-in-law.

There she forcibly fed them some poisonous substance and later pushed three children, identified as Aditya (6) Madhav (4) and Mangal (one-and-a-half-year-old), in the river water. Her fourth child, Sonu, who is eight-years of age, however, managed to flee the spot.
The police have found the bodies of the three children from the river with the help of divers and sent them for postmortem examination.
The woman’s elder child Sonu told the police that his mother took them in an auto to the Sengur river’s Keshampur ghat.
Here she fed his three brothers something and then pushed them one by one into the river.
As soon as they fell into the river, they all drowned, he said. “When my mother tried to drag me towards the river, I raised an alarm and ran away from there,” he said.

Superintendent of police (SP), Auraiya, Charu Nigam said that after seeing some people coming towards the river, the woman fled away. “However, after a brief search, she was held and later taken into police custody. Divers have found the bodies of all the three children. Froth was coming from the mouths of the three dead children, which suggested that they were poisoned before being pushed into the river,” Nigam said.
The official said that police are interrogating the woman, but at the moment, she is not ready to say anything. The family members including the children’s maternal grandfather have arrived.
“Why the woman committed this crime is not clear yet. Other family members are also being interrogated. The bodies of the three children have been sent to the mortuary,” Nigam said.
The accused woman’s husband Avneesh died due to an electric shock about one-and-a-half years ago. After that, she was living with her brother-in-law Ashish.
But as per the family members, her relations with Ashish were not going well.
Nigam said that Priyanka had left home in an auto on Thursday morning with her four children Sonu, Aditya, Madhav and Mangal after quarrelling with her family members. “While leaving the house, she had called her sister-in-law Gita and told her that she was going to die with the children. After this the phone was disconnected,” Nigam said.
