KANPUR: The water crisis in the drought-hit district once again took an ugly turn and led to a clash between two groups in Bidhnoo police circle here on Tuesday. This has been the fourth such incident in the district in the recent past.
Heavy police force has been deputed to avoid any kind of backlash from both the sides.
The negligence of the behalf of police led to this clash.
The clash took place in the drought-hit Samepaschim Para village when Amit (14) and Neelam (17) children of one Munna Lal had gone to fetch potable water from a village hand-pump following which the other group including Bauwan and Chuniya also reached there and entered into an altercation with them over the issue, police said. Later, the accused threw away the buckets of brother and sister duo. When they offered resistance, the other group attacked them with lathis and sickle leaving the two critically wounded. When Shivkanti, wife of Munna Lal rushed to her children's rescue, she too was brutally assaulted by the members of the opposite party.
"They attacked the victims with lathis and sickles. The violence subsided only after locals' intervention," said a police official of Bidhnoo police station. "We've received a complaint from one group and launched a manhunt to nab the accused," the official said.
The village, which comprises of population of nearly 1,500 villagers has only one hand-pump for domestic use as well as for other petty purposes. The authorities have been apprised of the situation by the villagers in this regard but the officials concerned have not paid heed to any of the complaints.

SO, Bidhnoo said the clash took place over water crisis. He said a case was being registered against some people including Bauwan on the complaint of Munna Lal.
The injured were rushed to the Ursala Horsman hospital, where the doctors stated their condition to be stable.
It may be recalled, a 45-year-old Bhagwandeen Yadav was murdered over water in the Rasoolabad police circle of Kanpur Dehat after a dispute over providing water to the crops late in the night of August 5.
