Vehicle-lifter held, 10 bikes recovered
Kanpur: The Govind Nagar police arrested a notorious vehicle lifter who stole ten bikes from Kanpur and three other districts. According to the police, the accused stole these bikes over three months. After stealing, the thief would hide the vehicles near the bushes by the Gujaini highway. The arrested suspect, Veer Pratap Singh alias Veeru, is a resident of Geudi in the Khanna police station area of Mahoba. He was living on rent in Dabauli. He stole three vehicles each from Kanpur and Hamirpur, and two each from Banda and Mahoba.
ACP Babu Purwa Anjali Vishwakarma said that on Tuesday night, during a vehicle check near the railway line in Ratanlal Nagar, the police stopped the accused biker, Veer Pratap. The registration certificate he showed was for a different vehicle. Under strict questioning, he confessed the truth. He admitted the bike was stolen and that the number plate was from his own vehicle, which was registered in his wife's name, and he already sold it. He had nine more vehicles hidden.
Based on his information, the police recovered two bikes from bushes by the Gujaini highway, three from a nursery near the bridge, and four parked near a guest house.
He targeted hospitals and tehsil offices to steal vehicles. He stole two vehicles from Naubasta and one from Barra. According to the police, the thief comes from a wealthy family. He owned about 30 bighas of land, half of which was sold to fund his addiction.
