NEW DELHI: Police rescued a man held hostage in Jhansi district on Saturday and arrested three people for their alleged involvement.
The victim, Lallu Chaubey (50), a resident of Lalitpur district, was lured to Jhansi on Friday by the accused who then held him captive. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs 3 lakh, of which Rs 1 lakh had already been paid.
Acting on information, police raided a location in Jhansi, rescuing Chaubey and apprehending the three accused, identified as Akhilesh Ahirwar (30), Satish Singh Bundela (27) and Kiran (35).
“During interrogation, the accused said that many women are associated with their gang. They first make a woman call a man over the phone and ask him to meet her in Jhansi when the gang holds him hostage,” Lalitpur SP Mohammad Mushtaq said.
Police are pursuing leads to apprehend other members of the gang. Cases under the Gangster Act have been registered against the arrested individuals.
