Kanpur: Ranji trophy tie between UP and
Assam on Friday wide opened as it is of now anybody’s match. Both the teams have played their first innings on two days. UP in its first innings obtained a slender lead of 9 runs when their innings folded on 274 runs on the second day of a four-day match at Banarsi Lal Cricket Stadium in Gurgaon. Assam had scored 265 runs in its first innings and when they are 5 for 1 wicket in their second innings, the umpires called the day.
Medium-pacer Yash Dayal claimed the wicket of opener Shubham Mandal for no score. At close, Pallav and Rishav were on the crease.
Earlier in the morning, UP resumed its first innings from overnight score 10 for no loss and its innings finished when just a few minutes before the close of the second day’s proceeding. Losing Madhav Kaushik (8) cheaply, UP’s innings got strength from Samarth Singh and Priyam Garg who executed 121 runs partnership for the second wicket.
Their partnership broke when Samarth Singh was held by Shubham Mandal of
Riyan Parag after scoring 70 runs in 123 balls consisting of 10 boundaries. Priyam Garg regained his form and played another valuable inning of 46 runs scored in 106 balls. Mukhtar Husain shattered his dream to score second successive half century.
UP suffered three shocks as Priyam Garg, Akshdeep Nath and Rinku Singh returned in addition to just 27 runs. Skipper Karan Sharma (31) and wicketkeeper Dhruv Chand Jurel combined at this juncture and scored 54 runs for sixth wicket. Now, a lot depends upon Dhruv Chandra Jurel, who after scoring 55 runs, fell prey to Ranjit Mali. He sent the ball 9 times to the fence in 99 balls. The score was 247 for 7 and UP was still 18 runs behind in first innings.
Shivam Sharma and Yash Dayal left the crease at 268 and by that time UP had got the valuable first-innings lead. Ankit Rajpoot and Aaquib Khan scored 1 and 6 runs respectively. Medium-pacer Hussain bagged 3 wickets for Assam. Ranjeet, Siddharth and Riyan picked two wickets each.
