U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy: UP give host Kerala drubbing on Day 2
Kanpur: UP was in driver’s seat against Kerala, grabbing five wickets for 127 runs in the first innings in pre-quarter final tie of U- 19 cricket tournament for Cooch Behar Trophy on the second day at Krishnagiri Stadium Wayanad on Saturday.In its first innings, UP had scored 452 runs and now they are leading with 325 runs. Resuming the innings from overnight score 3 for 288, UP lost its century maker Bhavy Goel who failed to make any addition in his overnight score of 107 and only one run was added to UP’s score by that time.Vijay S Vishwanath knocked him out. UP, thereafter, lost wickets of Akshay Dubey and Kirtivardhan, both failing to open their account, bringing UP to 303 for 6. Shubham Mishra at this juncture supported Kavya and the two batsmen forged a 115-run partnership in 175 balls for seventh wicket. Govind Dev broke their union, laiming Kavya’s wicket on 179 runs. Kavya faced 301 balls and hit 22 boundaries and two sixes.Shubham Mishra contributed 43 runs before falling prey to Mohammad Enaan, who emerged most successful bowler, claiming four wickets. Kerala lost opener Akshay SS cheaply but Akarsh A K and Govind stitched the early damage, adding 59 runs by the second wicket. Wickets thereafter fell at short intervals and Kerala were reduced to 120 for 5.
