Several other cars were confiscated from his house by the police after the Bikru massacre.
On Thursday, soon after the news of a Scorpio parked in an abandoned state at a dilapidated structure, the police rushed to the spot and investigated it on the basis of its registration number. The SUV was found to be registered in the name of Dubey. After seizing the vehicle, the police initiated investigation in this regard.
Inspector, Chaubepur, Krishna Mohan Rai, said that police are looking into aspects like how did this SUV reach here; who is the owner of this dilapidated structure and who brought it here; and whether Bikru incident has any link with this vehicle or village as well.
Police sources further said that Vikas used to work with some people of Sahajyora village, who were into buying and selling of properties. The police are now looking for such people in this village who were into property-related business and associated with Vikas.
In March 2021, it came to the fore during the investigation that Vikas, Prabhat Mishra, along with Amar Dubey had fled to the Rasoolabad area of Kanpur Dehat in a four-wheeler after executing the
Bikru ambush.
The four-wheeler in which Vikas had escaped was arranged by Prabhat Mishra. Those who had given shelter to Vikas after the Bikru incident are in jail.
“However, the SUV recovered on Thursday was not in the police’s theory yet,” said a police official privy to the investigation.
To recall, on the night of July 2, 2020, a police team that went to the house of Vikas in Bikru village of the district for a raid, was attacked by the latter and his aides.
Eight policemen, including the then CO of Bilhaur, Devendra Mishra, were killed by the gangster and his aides in the attack.
Later, the police, in back-to-back encounters, had killed six accused including Vikas and his five alleged aides. About 50 accused, including some cops, are in jail.
