Kanpur: Two persons drowned in river Ganga after a group of four friends went to take bath at Siddhanath Ghat in Jajmau area under the limits of Chakeri police station of the city on Friday.
The divers present on the spot managed to rescue two of them safely. On being informed, the police, with the help of divers fished out bodies of the other two and informed their families.

(40), an e-rickshaw driver and a resident of Girja Nagar Gadiana in Chakeri, along with his three friends Rakesh Rawat, Dharmendra and Pankaj Verma, all residents of the same area, went to Siddhanath Ghat to bath in river Ganga.
While they were bathing in the river, strong current of the river swept them and they started drowning. Hearing their screams, the local divers present there jumped into the river to save them. However, they could only save Dharmendra and Pankaj Verma while Pankaj Pandey and Rakesh Rawat drowned.
Inspector Chakeri Pawan Kumar said that four men had drowned in Ganga river at Siddhanath Ghat. “Two of them died, while two were rescued by the divers,” he said .
