Kanpur: Strong tremors were felt in Kanpur and other parts of the state at 2 am. on Wednesday after a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck in Nepal which triggered panic among the people. They rushed out of their houses in the middle of the night.
People, especially those living in high-rise buildings, stood out of their homes till early morning hours as they were afraid to go back to their apartments.
People after confirming about the tremors, posted their experience on social media platforms. While several people said they felt the jolt, there were others who reacted by saying that they were asleep and could not come to know about an earthquake triggering tremors. The tremor lasted for nearly 10-15 seconds, said a resident of the city.
According to the National Centre for Seismology, the depth of the earthquake was nearly 10 km.
"Earthquake of 6.3 magnitude occurred on November 9 at 01:57:24 IST, latitude: 29.24 and longitude: 81.06, depth: 10 km, location: Nepal," the National Centre for Seismology tweeted.
