He had boarded the train at around 6.34 am on May 24 from Kanpur Central railway station to go to Agra. He remained in touch with his wife Deepali on phone till 8 am and apprised her about the train's location in Phafoond (Auraiya), a GRP official said.
He added that after that his phone switched off and when he did not contact his family members till late night, they lodged a missing complaint with GRP Kanpur Central. The family members and friends also circulated his picture on WhatsApp with an appeal to look for him.
On Sunday, his body was found lying inside the toilet of Kota-Patna Express at Rajendra Nagar Terminus in Patna in a highly decomposed state. The GRP shifted the body to morgue and informed his family after identifying him on the basis of papers he was carrying. His family members rushed to Patna.
"Going by the post-mortem report, the trader suffered cardiac arrest and died," said GRP inspector Ram Mohan Rai.
Padam Aagrwal, brother-in-law of Sanjay, said: "It's painful that his body remained in the train's toilet for days and none came across it. It only reflects the functioning of GRP and RPF, besides railway authorities."
