To avenge verbal abuse, man bludgeons friend to death

Kanpur: In Govind Nagar, a man and his nephew allegedly murdered 35-year-old petrol pump attendant Rahul Awasthi, on Sunday night after taking him from his home in retaliation for verbal abuse.After consuming liquor, the accused took him on a bike to Nirala Nagar railway ground, where they stripped him naked, beat him with a belt and crushed his head with a brick, causing his death. The accused fled, leaving the naked body in the ground. Meanwhile, father of the deceased lodged a case expressing suspicion that his friend had committed the murder. When police took the named accused into custody and interrogated him, he admitted to committing the murder along with his nephew. He said during a drinking session on Saturday, Rahul had abused him, and along with his nephew, he killed him to avenge the insult.Ram Prakash Awasthi, native of Palepur village in Narwal, works as a security guard at an oil depot in Naubasta grain market. His son Rahul was a salesman at the Hindustan Petroleum pump located in Ramaipur.Rahul was married to Maya Devi, resident of Sarai Meeta in Panki, three years ago. According to the father, 15 days after the marriage, their was marital discord. They had only one mobile phone in the family.On Sunday, around 10:45 pm, Rahul gave them the mobile and left saying he would return in a while, but did not return. On Monday morning, Rahul's naked body was found in a mutilated condition, in Nirala Nagar. Based on the finding, when police took accused Kamta into custody and interrogated him, he confessed the crime. DCP South said action would be taken against both accused and they will be presented in court on Tuesday and sent to jail.
