KANPUR: To ensure availability of essential items at retail shops, district magistrate, Kanpur, has allowed wholesale stores in the city to keep their outlets open between 6 am and 8 pm. This decision will help retailers in procuring essential commodities from wholesalers.
Wholesale markets at Collectorganj, Nayaganj and other areas would remain open from 6am till 8 pm and retailers would have to maintain social distance there.
Only those having retail shops would be allowed to purchase essential items from wholesale markets.This has been done to ensure that there is no shortage of essential goods which in turn could cause panic among local people who are not stepping out of homes except when relaxation is given during the lockdown. Retailers will be able to open their shops till 11 am.
A relaxation in the lockdown is being given each day between 4am and 11am.
District Magistrate Brahm Dev Ram Tiwari said that to ensure that there is no shortage of essential items with retailers, they have been allowed to make purchase from the wholesellers who have now been allowed to keep their establishments open. For home delivery of daily need items, till Sunday night, over 800 shop onwers had got themselves registered. Shop keepers who are interested in home delivery can register themselves at kmc.up.nic.in.
