Kanpur: In the case of a robbery from a jeweller in Banda district, the police arrested three suspects near the Augasi bridge after an encounter late on Saturday night. The gang leader, Prabhakar, was shot in the leg and was admitted to the district hospital by the police.
Karan Soni, a resident of Marka village, is a jeweller. On July 25, while he was returning to his village from Fatehpur on a motorcycle, robbers stole his jewellery-laden bike and cash. Upon receiving the information, SP Palash Bansal assigned teams led by CO Saurabh Singh, including SOG and Marka police, to catch the culprits.
Late Saturday night, under the supervision of CO Saurabh Singh, the police team was conducting a search operation near the Augasi bridge. Suddenly, three men on a motorcycle started firing at the police. In the police's retaliatory action, the gang leader Prabhakar, alias Chetan, was shot in the leg. As the leader was injured, Ishan Joshi and Abhishek Kumar surrendered themselves.
The police captured all three criminals. Additional SP Shivraj stated that all the culprits are residents of Fatehpur district under the Ghazipur police station area. "They are notorious criminals with a history of offences. The police recovered Rs 66,000 in cash and jewellery from the robbers," the SP further said. The team included CO Saurabh Singh, Marka police station officer Ajit Pratap Singh, among others.
