KANPUR: Additional sessions judge Kanpur Nagar AP Mishra sentenced three accused, including a father and his son, to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 25,000 on each for committing murder.
Those sentenced by the court are Ajay Kumar alias Babu, his son Ujjwal and Phool Chand, all residents of Chunniganj.
According to ADGC Vinod Tripathi, complainant Nisha Dixit, a resident of Chunniganj campus under the Colonelganj police circle, in her report lodged on August 28, 2015, alleged that her husband Rajesh Dixit had given loan to one Ajay Kumar but on the same day, following some dispute, he asked Ajay to return the money.

Around 9.30 pm, when Rajesh was going to purchase some domestic goods, Ajay, his son Ujjwal and Phool Chand Kanaujia accosted him and then stabbed him with a knife on his abdomen and chest. Injured Rajesh was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him dead, the ADGC said.
On the point of quantum of sentence, the prosecution argued that as the act of the accused was an attempt to create terror in the locality, therefore, they should be punished severely.
On the other hand, the defence counsel pleaded that the accused belonged to one family, are the sole bread earners and have no criminal history hence the court should take a lenient view while convicting them.
