Three die, four injured in accident

A speeding truck mowed down three persons and injured four others in Jajmau area on Kanpur-Lucknow highway on Saturday. The accident led to violence.
The injured persons were rushed to a private nursing home. The truck driver has been arrested.
Shahid Ali, a resident of Saraiya and his friend Shoeb Mansuri were coming back home. At around 3 pm when the two were passing through Jajmau Chungi on the highway, they met Sher Ali and his son-in-law Anwar.The three started talking on the roadside. As per eyewitnesses, a truck driver lost control and rammed into a rickshaw and then hit pedestrians. Shahid Ali, Sher Ali and Anwar, who suffered serious injuries died on the spot while Shoeb Mansuri, rickshaw-puller Suraj, Shariq and Pervez sustained serious wounds.
When the driver tried to escape, a mob blocked its path, forcing him to stop the vehicle. The truck was impounded.
The driver was taken into custody and booked for rash and negligent driving.
The residents alleged that in order to avoid traffic police, the driver tried to escape which resulted into tragic incident. "The pedestrians who came in front of the speeding vehicle could not move away in time. The driver could not control the vehicle," a resident of the area said.
A mob gathered at the spot and started throwing stones at vehicles and blocked the road. Timely intervention by police prevented the situation from turning ugly.
