of Shahjahanpur won the girls and boys title in UP under-18 state championship held recently in Kaushambi. Three players of the city including champion Tanya Verma have been selected to represent the state team in All India chess championship o be held in Polathi (Coimbatore) Tamil Nadu) from April 18 to April 23.
According to secretary, Kanpur Chess Association Dilip Srivastava, the eight-member UP team has been selected on the basis of performance in under-18 state championship held at Kaushambi on April 8 and April 9. Tanya Verma won the girls group title while

Ayush

Saxena of Shahjahanpur cornered the boys’ title. Tanya’s elder sister Sakshi Verma who stood at the fourth place, too has been selected to represent state team. Another Kanpur girl Anushka Gupta secured the 8th place, he said.
The members of the UP team announced by AK Raizada, honorary secretary, UP Chess Sports Association and their performance in the state championship is as under:
Girls-1. Tanya Verma (Knp-5pts), 2. Poorvi Rajpoot (Jhansi-4), 3. Sanchita Yadav (Mrt-4) 4. Sakshi Verma (Knp-3).
Boys-1. Ayush Saxena (Shahjahanpur-5.5 pts), 2. Shrestha Yadav (Knp- 5), 3. Ujjwal Chauhan (Mrt.-5) 4. Gopal Krishna Maheshwari (Mrt. 5).
