Swastik leads UP’s fightback in Kanpur in qf
Kanpur: Swastik Chikara's unbeaten knock of 147 runs and his stellar 223-run unbroken partnership for the second wicket enabled Uttar Pradesh to mount a formidable response against Jharkhand, as the hosts accumulated 256 for 2 in their first innings on the second day of the CK Nayudu Trophy quarter-final at Green Park on Tuesday.Jharkhand, having posted 427 runs in their first innings, maintained a lead of 171 runs with UP having eight wickets intact. The assured batting display by Swastik and Siddharth indicated UP's recovery from their early setbacks.UP's innings commenced poorly, losing opener Shaurya Singh and Adarsh Singh cheaply at 33 runs in 8 overs. Both succumbed to medium-pacer Jatin, who trapped Shaurya Singh lbw for 6 and dismissed Adarsh Singh for 10.Swastik Chikara and Siddharth Yadav orchestrated the recovery with measured batting. Swastik swiftly found his rhythm, reaching his half-century in 38 balls and century in 96 balls, including 10 boundaries and 4 sixes. At stumps, Swastik remained unbeaten on 147 with 15 boundaries and 5 sixes, whilst Siddharth was batting on 85 from 123 balls, featuring 10 boundaries and a six.Earlier, UP bowlers efficiently wrapped up Jharkhand's first innings at 427 runs within 157 minutes, claiming the remaining six wickets for 103 runs. Kunal Tyagi continued his impressive form, dismissing the well-set Robin Minz, who scored 59 from 69 balls with 9 boundaries and a six.Overnight batsmen Minz and Om Singh initially appeared settled before Minz's dismissal, caught by Vipraj Nigam off Kunal. Shubham Mishra then trapped captain Shubh Sharma lbw for 5.Konain Quraishi supported Om Singh in a 52-run partnership for the seventh wicket, pushing the score beyond 400. Mishra eventually dismissed Quraishi for 30 and later claimed Om Singh, who scored 31 from 113 balls.
