Sports directorate to start water sports training camp at Boat Club

Kanpur: Sports directorate is all set to start water sports training camp at Kanpur Boat Club for which a coach has been appointed. Preparations for a 12-day water sports training camp has already started.According to sources in the sports directorate sources, training of kayaking, canoeing and rowing has been started in the camp and training in water sports will be imparted for students from class 5 to class 10 between the age group of 8 years to 14 years from May 15 to May 17.“As per the programme, training will be imparted from 6 am to 9 am. Interested people of any age group can take training in this camp on the weekend days. Interested children may contact coach Nitin Chandra (Mob No. 6386655211) and Harish Chandra Shukla (Mob No. 7570972492) or seek information personally between 8 am and 11 am”, said Neeraj Srivastava, secretary of the Boat Club.Divisional commissioner Raj Shekhar, who is the president of the Boat Club said on Friday that the sports department of the state has appointed a coach for kayaking and canoeing who has already joined the duty at the club.“A coach for rowing water sports is already available there,” he said and added, “Kanpur Boat Club has been developed as an important place for the national level water sports, which is the only one of its kind not only in UP but in the country where the stadium has been built in the form of a ghat.”The Boat Club president stated that For security of the barrage area, and for flood disaster management, a house has been constructed to have a PAC unit which will help conduct water sports events from time to time, Raj Shekhar said. The object of the Boat Club is to train children residing on the banks of Ganga for various water sports events, said secretary, Boat Club Neeraj Srivastava.
