Speeding truck collision leaves driver critically injured
Kanpur: Two speeding trucks collided during an overtaking attempt late Thursday night in the Panki police station area of Kanpur, leaving the driver of the trailing truck trapped in the cabin and in a critical condition, police said.
The accident took place on the Bhauti Highway when a speeding truck rear-ended the truck ahead while trying to overtake it. The impact badly damaged the cabin, trapping the driver inside.
Police reached the spot after receiving information and, with the help of local people, cut open the cabin using a gas cutter to rescue the driver. He was taken to a private hospital and later referred to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital after doctors assessed his condition as critical.
The identity of the injured driver has not been established yet. Police said they were trying to contact his family members through his mobile phone and that the investigation was ongoing.
According to police station in-charge Manoj Singh Bhadauria, both trucks were removed from the highway and traffic was restored to normal. Necessary action was being taken in the matter.
