KANPUR: Former chief minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said his party will strongly oppose the Uniform Civil Code.
His reply comes a day after a private member's bill on Uniform Civil Code (UCC) was introduced in the Rajya Sabha on Friday by a BJP MP.
“BJP deliberately rakes up such issues to create a rift in the society. Samajwadi Party follows the politics of harmony, the politics of socializing with each other which ‘Netaji’ (SP patron Mulayam Singh Yadav) taught. SP will never support such bills and will strongly oppose it,” he said.
Akhilesh was in Mainpuri’s Bhogaon where he along with his wife and newly elected Mainpuri Lok Sabha MP Dimple Yadav went to thank the public for supporting and helping the SP win.
While reacting to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s statement wherein he had said if a criminal commits crime at one intersection he would be punished on the next intersection, Akhilesh said: “First of all, CM should accept the fact that the law and order situation in the state is bad, only then will it improve. But this government is not even ready to accept that the law and order is bad. Most of the mafias are in BJP today.” When asked about role of ‘chacha’ (uncle Shivpal Yadav), Akhilesh said very soon he will be given a big responsibility.
When asked about that BJP is saying that Shivpal joined hands with Akhilesh because he was seeking BJP ticket from Mainpuri and the party refused, he said, “What has happened to BJP, who will take ticket from them, they lost Mainpuri bypolls from a huge margin, now who will take ticket from them?” Hitting out at BJP further over the misuse of agencies in elections, Akhilesh said paramilitary forces do not prepare the list of SP workers. “I have heard that the BJP had given money in advance to a sweet seller. And the money belonged to someone from Kannauj,” he alleged.
Earlier, while talking to media persons at the Etawah Safari Park on Friday, he also took a dig at Kannauj MP Subrata Pathak’s recent statement, wherein he had alleged that Shivpal Yadav had sought BJP ticket from Mainpuri parliamentary seat. Akhilesh said that he should first introspect.
“The MP who always keeps ‘Khaini’ (tobacco) in his mouth is unable to raise any question of development in the Parliament. He should first stop eating ‘Khaini’. What does he know about development, it’s SP, which has done development in Kannauj,” said Akhilesh.
