Snatcher who used car to rob woman of her gold chain arrested

Kanpur:A man who had carried out chain snatching using a car on April 26, was arrested by the police on Friday.
The incident took place while one Swati Singh, a resident of Sarojini Nagar, was returning home from Motijheel with her mother-in-law Sarvesh on April 26 after a morning walk.
Just then, Viraj Shukla alias Mridul, a resident of Swaroop Nagar, travelling in a blue colour car robbed her of her gold chain near Guru Nanak Girls Degree College.
The victim had suffered injuries following a scuffle with the snatcher.
Police and Crime Branch scanned the footage of Barajod toll plaza along with ITMS cameras of Municipal Corporation.
On the basis of which the car number was detected and the accused got arrested.
Viraj’s father works as a contractor in KESCO. The sedan car used in the crime belongs to Viraj’s uncle.
The police said that Viraj had executed this incident due to being addicted to drugs.DCP Central Pramod Kumar said that the accused Viraj Shukla is a resident of Swaroop Nagar.
“The car used in the incident has been recovered from the accused,” he said and added, “It is being said that a case is already registered against the accused in Swaroop Nagar police station.”
DCP further said that the police will interrogate him after procuring his remand. “Other incidents are also expected to be worked out,” said DCP further.
