SIT files chargesheet in two more cases in Kanpur violence

KANPUR: Of the three cases registered in connection with June 3 violence in the city, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has submitted chargesheet in the remaining two cases.

In all, three FIRs were filed at Beconganj police station in connection with the violence that took place on June 3 after the Friday prayers following the objectionable remarks on Prophet by former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

The police have so far arrested a total of 61 people in connection with the incident.

The SIT had filed the first chargesheet in the court on August 2 in connection with the June 3 violence of Penchbagh. Now, the police on Saturday have filed a chargesheet in the court with regard to the June 3 violence at Chandreshwar Hata and Dada Mian Chauraha. In both the cases, 51-51 people have been made accused. The first case was registered under crime number 42, which was related to the violence of Penchbagh.After this, two more cases were registered in connection with the violence which took place at Chandreshwar Hata and Dada Mian Chauraha.

SIT is probing all the three cases of June 3.

Joint Commissioner of Police Anand Prakash Tiwari said that SIT investigator ACP Kotwali Ashok Singh had presented the chargesheet in the court on August 2 in the crime number 42.

The SIT had then submitted a chargesheet against 47 including prime accused Hayat Zafar Hashmi and businessmen Mukhtar Ahmad Baba and Haji Wasi in the court, of which two are minors.

Mukhtar Baba owns and operates Baba Biryani restaurants in Kanpur, while Hayat Zafar is the president of the Maulana Mohammad Ali (MMA) Jauhar Fans Association and Haji Wasi is a property dealer.

JCP further said that now the SIT on Saturday filed chargesheet in connection with the violence at Chandreshwar Hata and Dada Mian Chauraha.

"In the first case where 47 people were accused, this time 51-51 each have been accused," he added.
