'Stick and chilli powder inserted': Nurse alleges gang-rape on way to work in Uttar Pradesh's Jalaun
KANPUR: A 30-year-old staff nurse, employed at a primary health centre in Jalaun, was allegedly gang-raped on Thursday morning.
According to her complaint, while commuting to work on her scooter, she was waylaid near Musmaria turn, adjacent to Suhakhar Kheda, in a secluded area and assaulted. The police said that the incident was a result of her relationship with a married man. "The detailed medical report is awaited though any preliminary evidence of gang rape has not been found," said a police official.
According to the survivor's account in the FIR, two men -- identified as Govind and Ram Milan -- acting on instructions from her neighbour Jayanti Devi, forcibly dragged her into the neighbouring forest, where they restrained, physically assaulted, and sexually violated her. The attackers fled when nearby farmers, working in the forest, responded to her cries for help.
The survivor revealed that her neighbour, Jayanti Devi, previously confronted her over alleged involvement with her husband, leading to a dispute the day prior.
Following this altercation, Jayanti Devi first threatened her and then orchestrated the attack with two accomplices, during which they stole the victim's mobile phone and money, while subjecting her to physical and sexual violence, the complaint says.
The police registered a formal complaint against the accused.
The survivor's spouse revealed that she is employed as a staff nurse at a PHC under Churkhi police station. On Thursday morning, while commuting to her workplace on her scooter, she was intercepted by several individuals who forcibly pulled her into nearby shrubbery. "She was heading to work around 9 am. She called me to narrate what happened. A man, his nephew, and some other people beat her up.
Four of them held her down, and two people gang-raped her. A stick and chilli powder were also inserted into her private parts. The police sent her for a medical check-up and treatment," he said.
Superintendent of Police, Jalaun, Durgesh Kumar, told TOI that a preliminary probe revealed that the incident was a consequence of the victim's alleged 'improper relationship' with a married individual.
"We have detained two of the accused named in the case and they are being interrogated. So far, we could not get evidence of gang rape and violation on private parts with chilli powder as mentioned in the complaint," he said. He added that a detailed medical report was awaited though the case has been registered under the charges of gang rape.
