Kanpur: Shaher qazi and Imam of Eidgah Maswanpur Maulana Mushtaq Ahmad Mushahidi on Monday met commissioner of police BP Jogdand and submitted a memorandum addressed to chief minister Yogi Adityanath on the issue of registration of FIR against more than 1800 people of the Muslim community, who had offered Eid namaz on the road at three separate Eidgahs of the city on April 22.
The maulana along with prominent religious leaders reached the police commissioner’s office on Monday and handed over a memorandum to CP BP Jogdand addressed to the CM demanding to withdraw the FIRs lodged at separate police stations of the city against the namazis. He raised an objection to the FIRs lodged against people for offering Eid prayers on the road.
He said there are more than 10 lakh Muslims in Kanpur city, who offer Eid prayers in various Eidgahs every year. “ Festivals of all religions are celebrated in different districts of the state in a traditional way, but never in this way, a case had ever been filed for following rituals with regard to the religious festival. In this way, thousands of Muslims had offered namaz in various Eidgah of the city, then as per the police guidelines all of them were accused. If this is so, then thousands of Muslims of the city are ready to give their arrest collectively”, the Shahar qazi added.tnn
