KANPUR: Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has taken an initiative to construct shades above all statues of freedom fighters and well-known personalities installed in the city. At present, the work has been started at around 10 statues of the most renowned personalities of the city.
According to
Tarun Sharma, chief engineer of KMC, currently the shades were being constructed above 10 statues situated at different areas of the city, including
Rajiv Gandhi's statue installed at Rajiv Upwan in Motijheel area.
“We have started the work on 10 statues situated at the most prominent locations of the city. The work is almost complete at 8 locations while for the other two it would be completed soon. We are getting concrete shades constructed above the statues which were lying open from head. This is being done as a token of regard to the great freedom fighters and other well-known personalities from the Indian history,” he said.
He said that the statues that already have shades above them were not part of the project. "Apart from these 10 statues, work on other locations will start soon. There are many statues in the city. We assign the work at a particular spot as soon as we get the information about the statue without head shade,” he added.
