Senior Indian Institute of Kanpur professor Sameer Khandekar died on stage
KANPUR: Senior Indian Institute of Kanpur professor Sameer Khandekar died on stage while delivering his speech at an alumni meet on the campus late on Friday evening. He was 55 and suffered a cardiac arrest.
He was immediately taken to the Cardiology Hospital, where he was declared dead. Apart from being a professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department, Prof. Sameer was also working as the Dean of Student Affairs.
The people present at the time of his address could not understand the heart attack, but as soon as he suddenly fell to the ground, there was a commotion there.
He was immediately taken to the Cardiology Hospital in Rawatpur, where the doctors declared him dead.
Apart from his parents, Professor Sameer has left behind his wife Pradyanya and son Pravah. It is being told that his son is abroad, and information has been given to him, and his last rites will be performed only after his return.
Born in Jabalpur, MP, Prof. Sameer did B.Tech from IIT Kanpur in the year 2000 and a Ph.D. from Germany in the year 2004.
In 2004, he joined IIT Kanpur as an Assistant Professor. Afterward, he became an Associate Professor in 2009 and a Professor from 2014. In 2020, Prof.
Sameer became the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and in 2023, he was also given the responsibility of the post of Dean of Student Affairs.
On Friday, the professor was standing on the stage and addressing the program going on on the occasion of the alumni meet in the auditorium of IIT. At the time when he suffered the attack, Prof. Khandekar was discussing health-related topics and was asking everyone to take care of their health first; then suddenly, his health deteriorated, and he collapsed.
He was immediately taken to Cardiology, where doctors declared him dead. It is being said that he had a cholesterol problem in the past for which he was also taking medicines.
The people present at the time of his address could not understand the heart attack, but as soon as he suddenly fell to the ground, there was a commotion there.
