The Indian squad had arrived on Saturday and staying at a hotel located close to the Green Park Stadium.

District magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said that the security arrangements are being reviewed in view of the Uri terror attack. "We are in touch with senior police officials and LIU (local intelligence unit). We are monitoring the situation. The security of players is our prime concern. The security at the hotel has been beefed up."

SSP Shalabh Mathur said that alert was already in place following IB inputs a couple of days back. "The police are already on alert. The policemen are extra cautious now. To guard the players at the stadium during net practice sessions, three-tier security arrangements are in place." Six IPS, 10 deputy superintendents of police, 20 inspectors and 50 sub-inspectors are being deployed in the final ring, while second and third rings will be manned by RAF, PAC and civil police personnel.

Security checks were intensified at various entry/exit points of the city. Every vehicle is being examined. Security has also been increased at all vital installations and high-rise buildings surrounding the Green Park stadium.

"We are also keeping a close watch on everything in and around the city to avoid any untoward incident," he said. Patrolling has been intensified on Kanpur-Lucknow National highway-25 that will be used by New Zealand team on Monday, the police said.

Security agencies have been directed to be on maximum alert. Kanpur Fire services is to keep its fleet of fire tenders ready to respond immediately in the event of an emergency, another police official added.

Checking has been intensifed at Kanpur Central railway station and Jhakarkati inter-state bus depot. Security has been also tightened at Ahirwan Chakeri airport, shopping malls, cinema halls and market places. and OEF factory in the Cantt area, vehicles and visitors are being subjected to checks.
