Sanskrit classes organized in IIT-K

KANPUR: The fragrance of Sanskrit has reached IIT Kanpur, where many engineers, research scholars and professors are participating in Sanskrit classes. These classes are being organized by Vivekananda Samiti IIT-Kanpur in association with an NGO Sanskrit Bharati Kanpur Centre from August 21 to September 2. Dr Omkar Narayan Dubey from Sanskrit Bharati is the instructor for these classes.This time more than 50 students are attending classes. Classes are being conducted in two batches in the evening. Sanskrit classes at IIT have motivated the neighbouring schools and now they are also organizing the Sanskrit classes for their students. Sanskrit Shivir in Hanuman Gandhi Higher Secondary School has participation of more than 100 students. One of the students said he wants to learn because a great wealth of knowledge is present in Sanskrit language. Btech student, Abhinav said “there are a lot of ancient texts that exist in Sanskrit language that are related to Engineering.”
“Sanskrit is attracting people from every walk of life. After the rule of various invaders, the place of Sanskrit in India is confined only to rituals. Sanskrit was the medium of communication, education, law, trade, art, entertainment, research and all modes of intellectual debates till few centuries ago. Once again, the language is getting attention by many people and is also being considered as a modern language,” said Rahul Jagtap, an IITian and one of the co-ordinators of the event.
He said many students and professors have expressed that Sanskrit is sweet and simple. This shivir will be followed by the regular classes to learn the language further. Other volunteers from Sanskrit Bharati like Dr Yogesh Mishra, Pritviraj and Sandhya are also assisting in conduction of classes.
