Kanpur: The police arrested a robbery suspect after an encounter in the Chakeri police station area during the early hours of Friday. They recovered an illegal 315 bore firearm, a live cartridge, and a motorcycle from him. The suspect was on the run after committing a crime in the Chakeri police station area of Kanpur. During the operation, he was shot in the leg and was hospitalised.
According to the information received, the suspect, along with his accomplices, committed a car and motorcycle robbery in December 2024. While other suspects were arrested, Vishwajeet Singh alias BD, son of Anjani Singh, a resident of Chakeri, was absconding. The surveillance team and Chakeri police station team were continuously working to apprehend the suspect.
DCP East Shrawan Kumar Singh said, "Following a tip-off, Inspector-in-Charge Santosh Kumar Shukla and his force cornered the suspect near the railway underpass on Alaknanda Road early Friday around 4am. During this, the suspect attempted to flee while firing at the police team with the intent to kill. In the retaliatory action by the police, the suspect was shot in the right leg, resulting in his injury."
Subsequently, he was arrested and admitted to the hospital. tnn
