Kanpur: Governor Ram Naik said that wearing a ceremonial gown and a headgear during in convocations is a custom given by the Britishers. He said that he had directed vice-chancellors of all universities in the state not to allow wearing ceremonial gowns and headgears in any convocation.
Naik made this remark during convocation function of Ram Janki Mahavidyalaya held in Kanpur Dehat on Tuesday. Interestingly, while speaking against wearing of ceremonial gowns, the governor himself was donning the same dress. However, after some time, he removed his gown on the stage itself.
Naik also got angry on seeing BJP flags placed all over the college premises. "The governor does not belong to any party, therefore putting flags of any particular party in any programme in which governor is present, is not good", he said.
