KANPUR: Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav was left red-faced on Thursday when he was queried by a news person about his initiative on plantation drive in Kanpur on the occasion of World Environment Day. He left the media interaction in a huff at police lines and left for Lucknow.
"On the occasion of World Environment Day, I have planted saplings in Kannauj.
Today 50,000 saplings were planted and till the rainy season sets in, the target is to plant one lakh saplings," Yadav said.
When a reporter questioned what has been done for Kanpur in terms of plantation, he got annoyed and left the interaction midway. Earlier, the chief minister handed over two cheques of Rs 15 lakh each to the father and wife of the naval officer.
Yadav said that it was not brought to his knowledge that there is another family in the city whose son had lost his life for the country. "Our government does not believe in taking decisions based on caste. The Centre did not inform the state government about the death of the naval officer. When it came to our notice, the government helped the family of Alok Sahu like it had extended help to the family of air force officer
Ashish Yadav," he said while shifting the blame on the Centre government for not informing about the death of navy officer Alok Sahu. Ashish Yadav had lost his life in the Hercules plane crash near Agra in March this year.
The state government was criticized for not visiting the house of navy officer Alok Sahu when CM had visited the house of air force officer Ashish Yadav on May 31. Sahu's father Puttu Lal and other family members had expressed anger that CM had not visited their house.
This time, Yadav later drove straightaway to the house of navy officer Alok Sahu after landing in the city.
