Kanpur: A driver of a private travel agency was shot dead by some unidentified assailants in Arjun Nagar under the Friends Colony police station area in Etawah district during the wee hours of Friday.
The incident came to light after some locals, who had gone for morning walk, spotted the injured driver with bullet wounds lying on the road and alerted the police. After conducting preliminary investigations, the police sent the body for postmortem.
Superintendent of Police Kapil Dev Singh said that on the information of morning walkers, the police reached the spot and admitted the injured man found on the road to the district hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead.
The deceased has been identified as Mukesh Tiwari, who worked as a driver in a private bus travel agency in Etawah. “Investigations are underway to ascertain the circumstances under which the driver was shot dead,” the SP added.
According to police, some sources said that the travel agency bus which Mukesh used to drive was of a Bharatiya Janata Party leader. Meanwhile, his family members said that Mukesh had no enmity with anyone. Almost all men of the family work as bus drivers in travel agencies, they said.
“While returning from Gurugram in the morning, Mukesh was dropped near Harshvardhan hotel at some distance from Mukesh’s home, shortly after he was shot,” they said.
