Kanpur: The Etawah police arrested four people in connection with the murder of a woman and her minor daughter. They committed this violent act against the victims due to disputes over property ownership.
A tragic incident occurred near Mahera Chungi in the Friends Colony area on Sunday night when Harshvardhan, whose father was a retired chief medical officer, fatally shot his sister and her three-year-old daughter in Etawah district due to his displeasure over his father's decision regarding property distribution. Jyoti and her daughter have been residing at her father's residence for several years. The shooting occurred in presence of Jyoti's husband, who received a hand injury. The police responded promptly, confiscated the weapon, arrested Harshvardhan, and began post-mortem procedures. The house belonged to former CMO Dr L.S. Chauhan, where his daughter Jyoti, 40, resided with her three-year-old daughter Tashu.
After her marriage to Rahul in Lucknow in 2019, Jyoti spent three years looking after her father, while her husband, a practising advocate, visited regularly. Rahul arrived from Lucknow on Saturday for a visit.
Harshvardhan lived in the same house with his family.
At 9 pm on Sunday, the former CMO after hearing gunshots descended from the second floor to discover Jyoti and Tashu bleeding. They were rushed to the district hospital but were pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police investigations revealed that the former CMO had allocated his house to his daughter, which infuriated Harshvardhan. Rahul Mishra, husband of Jyoti, filed a complaint at Friends Colony police station on Monday.
According to his statement, his father-in-law, Dr Lavkush Singh Chauhan, registered a house in his wife Jyoti Chauhan's name that infuriated Harshvardhan Singh Chauhan. At 9.30 pm on Sunday, while Rahul was working on his laptop, Harshvardhan Singh (52), along with his wife and sons Abhishek Pratap (28) and Krishna Pratap Singh (19), arrived armed and opened fire, resulting in the deaths of his wife and daughter.
SSP Sanjay Kumar Verma said that acting on intelligence, police intercepted the suspects near the highway underpass towards Deshramau village on Monday. "The SOG surveillance team and Friends Colony police nabbed four suspects, including a woman, and seized one motorcycle," the SSP said.
"The main accused Harshvardhan, his wife, and their sons Abhishek and Krishna, subsequently confessed to the crime during questioning. They have been booked under BNS sections 61 (2) (Criminal Conspiracy), 103 (Punishment for Murder), 109/3 (5) (Attempt to Murder)."
