KANPUR: The human face of the police came to the fore once again when it stood firmly behind the girl child, who was found injured and profusely bleeding in Gursahaiganj area of Kannauj district on October 23, and is battling for life at a private hospital in Kanpur.
On the instructions of ADG Kanpur zone Bhanu Bhaskar, police officials of Kannauj collected the fund (Rs 6 lakh) from the good Samaritans and handed it over to the girl’s family members for her treatment.

The girl had gone out to purchase a ‘gullak’ (piggy bank) on October 23 but did not return home after which her family members launched a search for her.
Later, a purported video of the incident, wherein a girl could be seen lying and raising her hand for help, went viral on the social media.
After that another video went viral, wherein a policeman is seen carrying the injured girl to an autorickshaw to take her to the hospital while bystanders are recording videos on their mobile phones.
The hospital told the girl’s parents that more money would be needed for the treatment but they had exhausted all their savings, so they then reached out to inspector Kotwali Raj Kumar Singh, who was handling the investigation.

The inspector without giving a second thought assured them that whatever money is needed, the police will help in every way for the treatment of the girl.
“At first, we thought that with the help of two or three financially sound people, it would work, but with the treatment costing about Rs 50,000 per day, we then decided to reach out to more genuine people of the town,” inspector Singh further said and added, “It took just few phone calls and text messages in WhatsApp groups to arrange for fund and luckily, we have got support from more genuine people of the district who came forward and offered to help. Till date, nearly 18 people voluntarily came forward to help the girl.”
With the help and blessings of people, it looks like the girl’s medical treatment will be taken care of, said the official further.
“Of the money collected so far, whatever will be spent for the treatment, we will spend and whatever is left will be spent on the education of the girl,” said Singh further.
The girl’s maternal uncle, meanwhile, said, “The example presented by the Kannauj police is commendable for the police of other districts”.
