Drona on the occasion said that the pillar would be raised in the rememberance of those whose bodies were donated for human use. He said that several bodies have been given to different medical colleges across the state for study purpose. He applauded 'Yug Dadhichi Deh Daan Abhiyaan' dignitaries for having launched a drive to encourage people to donate the bodies of their family members for a noble cause.
"It was 10 years ago on the same date (20 August) that we had started the campaign of encouraging people to donate bodies (of their family members) for medical use. It was on August 20 in 2006 that the first body was donated. Dr Abhishek Dixit had donated body of his younger brother and thereafter, we made it a campaign to join more and more people with us to come forward to take oath for body donation. These bodies are provided to government hospitals for study purpose. In last 10 years we have donated 163 bodies to medical colleges", said Manoj Sengar, president of 'Yug Dadhichi Deh Daan Abhiyaan' while talking to TOI.
He said that 2500 people have pledged in writing for body donation.
On this occasion, Dr Abhishek Dixit was honoured for taking an initiative to donate the body of his brother 10 years ago.
