KANPUR: A gang which helped aspirants clear competitive examinations by rigging online allegedly with the help of the exam staff was busted, police said here on Tuesday.
Ten members of the gang -- Krishnan Prasanna, Ravikant Verma, Rupesh Kumar Sharma, Alok Pratap Singh, Ravindra Pratap Singh, Abhishek Kumar, Ankur Kumar, Sunil Kumar, Kamal Prakash Sharma and Rajat Sachan -- have been arrested.
ASP STF AK Chaturvedi said the breakthrough came following a tip-off provided by members of a solver gang arrested during the RRB (Railway Recruitment Board) exam on April 22 in Allahabad.
ASP further said the gang members used to solve papers of online exams in connivance with the exam staff at various centres across the state and used to charge huge sum from the aspirants.
The police recovered 19 mobile phones, four four-wheelers, five laptops, several computers, three hard-disk, two routers, 13 driving licences, 14 adhar cards, 33 pan cards, 289 fake voter ID cards, 23 bank passbooks, 200 educational certificates, besides cash worth Rs 9 lakh from the accused.
Most of their clients were from Allahabad,
Gorakhpur, Gonda, Unnao, Kanpur, Moradabad, Roorkee and Dehradun.
Those arrested have been charged with cheating and forgery under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and under the Information Technology Act, said the police.
Acting on a tip, police raided several spots in Kalyanpur area of the City and arrested the ten persons on Sunday evening.
