Kanpur: Setting an example of communal harmony and brotherhood, a Muslim scrap trader and a corporator in Ram Ganj Mohalla of Kanpur Dehat performed the `tehranvi' of their 76-year-old Hindu worker who died on April 11.
Haseeb Qureshi, a corporator of Ram Ganj Mohalla in Kanpur Dehat, is a scrap trader.
In 2005, a man visited Hanuman Kuti located near Qureshi’s scrap godown.
After a few days, the same man again came to Qureshi and asked for work. Being educated, Qureshi gave him the responsibility of looking after his scrap godown.
During the appointment, the man gave him his introduction that he is Om
Prakash Sharma and hails from
Punjab. Slowly he became like a family member of Qureshi.
Om Prakash was injured in an accident a few days ago and died on April 11 in a hospital.
After this, Haseeb and his father Habib, after discussing with their Hindu friends, performed his last rites according to Hindu customs under the supervision of a priest.
On Sunday, they organised the 'tehranvi' of Sharma and a feast and also gave donations to Brahmins. The locals of the area participated in the `tehranvi' and lauded the gesture of communal harmony of the Muslim family.
"At a time when Muslim community is being targeted every now and then, Qureshi family set an example of how we all stand united despite the attempts to create divisions and hatred," said a group of locals of Ram Ganj.
Haseeb Bhai's action would set an example of communal harmony, said locals. "This is our `Ganga-Jamuni' culture. Such gestures represent harmony and our brotherhood," they said while garlanding the photograph of the deceased Om Prakash Sharma.
