Mortal remains of Coast Guard pilot reach city
Kanpur: Body of Coast Guard pilot Sudhir Yadav reached his residence in Chakeri, escorted by his fellow officers from the Porbandar Coast Guard unit.
He and two others died in a helicopter accident in Porbandar, Gujarat, on Sunday. His remains were first brought to Lucknow on Tuesday morning and then to Kanpur. The last rites will take place on Wednesday at Bithoor Ghat.
Deep grief enveloped the household when his wife Avriti reached their Shyam Nagar, Ramapuram residence on Monday afternoon. Sudhir, son of Nawab Singh Yadav, serving as a pilot in the Indian Coast Guard, died in the helicopter accident on Sunday afternoon in Porbandar along with two others.
Sudhir's elder brother Dharmendra said that unit personnel transported Sudhir's remains from Rajkot to Ahmedabad via special aircraft.
On Tuesday morning, a special aircraft brought the body to Chakeri Air Force Airport in Kanpur, with family members and service personnel from the Air Force and Coast Guard units present. After a two-hour viewing session at the Shyam Nagar residence, the body will be kept at the Seven Air Force Hospital mortuary.
The remains will be taken to his native village, Shivli Harkishanpur, in Kanpur Dehat on Wednesday around 10 am. After the villagers pay their respects, the funeral procession will move towards Bithoor Ghat for the state honours ceremony.
Dharmendra said a memorial service was conducted at the Porbandar unit on Monday evening, with military officers in attendance and family members joining via video call.
Various political representatives visited to express condolences at the family's Shyam Nagar, Ramapuram residence, including Cantt MLA Mohammad Hasan Rumi, former BJP MLA Raghunandan Singh Bhadauria SP district president Fazal Mahmood and SP leader Fateh Bahadur Singh Gill.
