Minister inaugurates sports stadium at NSI
Kanpur: Minister of state, ministry of consumer affairs, food & public distribution and rural development Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti inuagurated the newly constructed NA Ramaiah Sports Stadium at National Sugar Institute on Thursday.The stadium, equipped with a visitor gallery, dug outs, changing room and dining room will be used for athletics and various other outdoor sports, cricket in particular. The NSI, being an institute of global recognition, is required to have all basic infrastructural facilities for all around personality development of the students. “After strengthening of academic and research facilities, sports facilities are also being addressed at the institute (NSI)”, said the minister. “Playing various sports helps students teach life skills such as teamwork, leadership, accountability, patience, and self-confidence and prepares them to face life challenges. Students get a chance to work on their physical and mental abilities to achieve goals in their life. Ministry will further support the institute’s proposals for enhancing such sports facilities”, she added. Extending thanks to the minister for the generous support, director NSI Narendra Mohan said that one more visitor gallery has been planned to be added in the coming years. “We are in the process of renovating the indoor sports facility, including development of indoor and open air gym. The open air gym is meant for use of colony residents also, said the director adding that, “We are not only providing infrastructural facilities to the students but also providing sports material and kits to them for participation in various sports meet,” said president, council of sports activities (Sports) Anup Kumar Kanaujia.Students of our institute have represented even state championships in the past and with the development of such facilities, their particiaption is likely to increase, he said. On this occasion, a friendly cricket match was played between Sugar Tech XI and Engineering XI teams. Before the match, Sadhi Niranjan Jyoti met the players of both the teams. The minister also felicitated general manager Dinesh Katiyar and joint secretary, Kanpur Cricket Association Kaushal Kishore Singh for their untiring efforts in nurturing young cricketers. Young cricketers, Shweta Verma, Ekta Singh, Garima Yadav and others who displayed their talent at the national level.
