KANPUR: A significant blaze erupted early Saturday in a shop situated in the Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) Colony Shoe market in Jajmau, Kanpur.

Multiple fire engines from Jajmau and Meerpur fire stations rushed to the location to tackle the emergency.
The firefighting teams utilised their equipment and resources to battle the flames.

The establishment, Wings Star, owned by Sharafat and Sartaj in the Jajmau KDA shoe market, also served as their residence with their family occupying the floor above.

Reports indicated that the fire was initiated in the shop during the early hours of Saturday, with smoke beginning to spread.

The residents evacuated the building upon noticing the situation and attempted to suppress the flames, but by morning the fire had intensified significantly.

The shop on the ground floor was destroyed completely in the incident.

Chief fire officer (CFO) Deepak Sharma confirmed that seven fire engines were deployed to the KDA Shoe Market in Jajmau on Saturday morning after receiving reports of a substantial fire.

"The fire has been completely doused. All floors have been checked, trapped people have been safely evacuated. The firefighters worked tirelessly amidst toxic smoke and high temperatures to completely extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby homes. There were no casualties in the incident," said CFO further.

In yet another fire mishap, a major fire broke out in Rakhi Mandi in the Raipurwa police station area of Kanpur on Saturday morning. Upon receiving information about the fire, several fire brigade vehicles arrived at the scene. Firefighters managed to control the blaze after considerable effort.

The fire erupted in the Jhakarkati Rakhi Mandi located in the Raipurwa police station area. Local residents reported that the fire affected five scrap warehouses, including shops owned by Neetu Singh, Sikandar Yadav, Gopi, Uma Devi, and others. Scrap worth several lakhs was reduced to ashes due to the fire.

It is noteworthy that this was the second major fire in Rakhi Mandi within a year. Considering the previous incident, police and fire brigade vehicles promptly arrived at the scene. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
