KANPUR: A mason killed his wife and daughter at his house and leapt to death from a nearby building in Khandepur locality during the wee hours on Thursday.
Naubasta police said that
Rakesh Yadav used to quarrel with his wife Urmila and daughter Sheela alias Diksha for the past few months, as he was jobless these days following an injury in his leg.
"Evidences show that Rakesh had beaten his wife and daughter to death, He then jumped from the roof a building," said DIG Rajesh Rai.
The police said the man was under the influence of liquor and committed the murders in a fit of rage. Urmila used to work as a domestic help since her husband had suffered injuries on his leg. Sheela alias Diksha was a class XII student in a college in the vicinity.
They hailed from Allahabad district and residing in the city since the last few years.
Rakesh Yadav got up around 3 am and started attacking his wife with an iron rod. When Sheela, 16, sleeping near her mother, woke up and raised cries, Yadav attacked her too.
When the two fell unconscious, he fled from the spot and jumped from the roof of a house, leaving himself critically wounded.
Hearing commotion, neighbours rushed to the spot and found Urmila and Sheela lying unconscious and profusely bleeding. Later, Rakesh was also was lying in a critical condition.
The neighbours apprised the Naubasta police. The three were rushed to Ursula Horsman Hospital, where they succumbed to injuries. The bodies were sent for autopsy.
Residents of the area said the incident was the result of illicit relationship. "Rakesh used to frequently quarrel with Urmila, suspecting her character," said a neighbour.
