Man sent to jail for not complying to court orders

KANPUR: The metropolitan magistrate (I), Kanpur Nagar, P K Jayant, on Wednesday sent one Ratan Kumar, a sweet shop owner, to jail for not complying to earlier court summons and orders.
Ratan Kumar is being prosecuted by the health department of Kanpur Nagar Nigam under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act.
The food inspector had taken samples of namkeen from his shop in December 2001 and sent the same to the lab for testing.

The lab report revealed that the oil used for frying was not fit for consumption. Therefore, Kumar's offence comes under the ambit of provisions of Prevention of Food Adulteration Act.
Ratan Kumar was not appearing before the court since 2006. And the court had issued a non-bailable warrant after issuing several summons and bailable warrants against him.
On September 19 this year, Ratan Kumar moved an application before the court urging it to recall the non-bailable warrant against him.
The presiding judge rejected his application and took him under judicial custody and sent him to the jail.
Man, 3 sons convicted: A man and his three sons were convicted by the additional chief metropolitan magistrate, (I), Kanpur Nagar, Anand Kumar, for injuring a person and awarded him two years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1,000 on each.

The sentenced persons were Kishan alias Baggadi and his three sons - Kalloo, Ajay and Santosh - all resident of Chandra Nagar under Sisamau police station limits.
The accused, armed with sharp-edged weapons, had attacked and injured one Mukesh on September 10, 2002 over a dispute.
New district judge visits KBA: The new district judge of Kanpur Nagar, Om Prakash Verma, on Wednesday evening visited Kanpur Bar Association (KBA) hall and met with advocates.
Addressing the advocates, he said that judiciary is with them and would support them for every reasonable cause. He also sought the support of advocates for speedy trials.
