KANPUR: A 35-year-old man tried to commit suicide by consuming some poisonous substance outside police outpost in Patara area of Ghatampur against alleged police inaction on Wednesday.
The man, identified as Girja Shankar Tiwari of Patara, is said to be in a critical condition. His family claimed that he was under depressed after his neighbours grabbed his land.
Inspector Ghatampur RB Singh said, “Earlier, on November 5, Girja and his wife Namrata attempted suicide at ‘tehsil diwas’ at Phoolbagh on November 5. Police had inspected the site after receiving instructions from senior officials, but their allegations wherein they had accused his neighbour of grabbing their land, were found to be false.”
“On Wednesday evening, he consumed some poisonous substance and reached the police out-post. He was rushed to a nearby CHC from where he was referred to Lala Lajpat Rai hospital,” he added.
