Man awarded 10-year RI for deadly attack on wife, kids
Kanpur: Presiding officer (fast-track court-52) Kanpur Nagar, Shraddha Tripathi on Thursday convicted one Ajay Singh Sengar for making an attempt to kill his wife and children and sentenced him for 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 20,000.
In her order, the presiding officer observed that if the children were not safe with the father, then where could they be secure? She ordered that if the accused failed to pay the fine, then he had to suffer another five months jail term.

The period in which the accused was in jail during the trial would be adjusted in the final sentence.
On the quantum of sentence, the defence counsel pleaded that the accused was a poor man with no criminal history, therefore, the court should take a lenient view. On the other hand, additional district government counsel Jitendra Kumar Pandey pleaded that the accused had cut the neck of his wife, daughter and son with an intention to kill them and injured them seriously. Therefore, he should be punished severely.
ADGC said report was lodged by Akhilesh Kumar, brother-in-law of the accused. In the FIR he alleged that on September 9, 2018, his sister Sadhana Singh, his niece Astha alias Bittoo and nephew Bauva alias Abhiman Singh were in their house in village Kathara.
Around 9.30 am, Ajay Singh Sengar armed with a sharp-edged weapon attacked Sadhana Singh and his children and inflicted several blows. The shrieks attracted the neighbours but the accused managed to escape before the villagers could reach and assemble there. The intention of Ajay Singh was to kill them.
