Kanpur: In a nearly three-year-old case involving the murder of a woman and her two daughters with a grinding stone in Mahoba district, additional district and sessions judge (FTC) Aparna Tripathi-II awarded the death sentence to the convict on Wednesday, classifying the case under the rarest of rare category.
District govt advocate (criminal) Dinesh Singh and assistant district govt advocate Surendra Singh Rajput said that the murders were committed in 2023 in Muhalla Samadnagar in Mahoba.
Hariprasad Panchal of village Nauranga in Hamirpur district, in a written complaint submitted to city Kotwali police, said that he got his daughter Ramkumari married to Devendra Vishwakarma.
He said that on July 17, 2023, around 8 pm, Devendra bludgeoned his wife and daughters, aged 9 and 6, to death with a grinding stone. Devendra used to sell clothes and other items for a living.
Police registered the case on July 18, 2023, and submitted the chargesheet in court on Aug 24.
Investigators said that his fingerprints were found on the grinding stone recovered from the scene, and the blood found on his clothes matched that found at the scene.
A total of nine witnesses, including the deceased's father, a doctor and police personnel, were examined.
Assistant district govt advocate Surendra Pratap Singh Rajput claimed that the convict harboured suspicions about his wife, and a case regarding this was also pending in the family court.
On the day of the incident, a dispute erupted over the cooking of food.
Earlier, in Aug 2025, Devendra tried to end his life in sub-jail by making a noose from a towel.
